If slaughterhouses had glass walls, what percent of current omnivores do you believe would be vegetarians?

Follow-up question:

Of those omnivores who you believe would be vegetarians if slaughterhouses had glass walls, do you think it’s because most of them would be so disgusted as to change their diet (direct result) or do you think it’s because the meat industry would suffer financially to the point where meat would be less available and more expensive to most omnivores (indirect result)?

Some of them, but certainly not all of them. There is tons of information out there and a lot of folks that I know actively avoid it because they don’t want to know. They don’t want a reason to change their diets or behaviors.

I would imagine that there are enough people who don’t want to find out that any impact would be a result of decreased purchasing. Open-air slaughterhouses and mobile abattoirs exist. They aren’t THAT expensive to operate, but must be run on a much smaller scale. The meat is usually cleaner as well, but it does cost extra.

maybe a slight 20%, I am against vegetarianism, I am thinking to reduce my meat to 3 times a year which is what a human should be eating! human is omnivore !

Sorry if this is not a direct answer to your question…

In addition to wondering what percent would become vegetarians, I also wonder how many of them would simply consider the fact that the problem is not meat itself, but the industry of factory farming. Would those people start buying their meat from local farmers markets?

If by "slaughterhouses having glass walls" you mean that people just understood exactly where their meat comes from and the processing it went though, then yes, the percentage would probably increase by quite a bit.

I’ve found that many people simply do not know (or do not care) about where there food comes from. It magically appears in supermarket isles with a reasonable price and that’s as far as many people are concerned. I think a lot of that "consume now, (don’t) ask questions later" mindset is just a product of tradition, or maybe even laziness. I think that in this day and age there are a lot of things to be distracted by, so if something is just handed to you wrapped up neatly, no questions asked, then maybe that’s simply all that matters to some people. The same thing can be said about clothing made in sweatshops….it doesn’t matter how it got there, as long as it’s looks nice and is priced right, so despite the horrible circumstances that made a certain product come into existence, no questions are asked and the wheels keep turning.

They already do have glass walls. Figuratively speaking of course. People know where their meat comes from. Killing an animal for food is not pretty. People have to know they are killed. The meat fairy doesn’t come down, wave her wand, and there is magically meat in nice fancy packages. People cannot be that stupid. Vegans think we don’t understand because we continue to eat meat. They think if we knew how we get meat we would stop. We know, we just have different views and think its just fine to kill and eat animals. Simple as that.

the people didn’t know about the things that go on at slaughter houses and the people that will care and are compassionate about animals,i dont know what percent that would be, alot i hope lol
but in reality there are alot of people in the world that do not care, don’t like animals, arent compassionate, and lack empathy

    ‘Dana’ nailed it totally agree

Not many, probably less than 10%. I sure wouldn’t, I already know exactly what goes on there. It is only in very recent times where there has been a separation of the food people eat and them thinking about or realizing how it actually got there. Back in the old days, people used to slaughter or hunt their own animals for meat, and there were fewer vegetarians.
