Was this fair? I feel Ediets ripped me off!?
I signed up for $3.99 a week on Ediets. In huge bold letters it said just $3.99 a week & $15 something a month. I like the week by week option.
I have a health problem with IC and IBS. This limits my foods I can eat and if I eat the incorrect thing I have dreadful bladder pain and stomach pains.
I talked to a rep about this on live chat before I joined and she told me I could adjust what foods I eat to meet my needs. I told her that i would sign up for a week and look around to see how things worked. She told me to contact them again if I needed help.
I joined. I picked the $3.99 a week option. I looked around for lets say 30mins or so. Fooling around with the foods to see what they had to offer. After awhile I saw it wouldn’t meet my needs.
I went to cancel. Ofcourse you have to call or contact live help.
I did that.
I was told: The membership the you signed up for is a 12 week minimum if cancel at this point there will be only one fee of 25.00.
ran out of room: more of the chat:
Jeannette M.: Was there any reason for cancellation?
Me: Because of my health reasons. I didn’t sign up for a 12wk plot. I signed up for the 3.99 per week plot.
Me: I have IC a awkward bladder disorder called IC
Me: There is no way I should be charged. I’ve only been a member for like 30mins
Jeannette M.: That is right the membership is 3.99 a week billed 15.96 every 28 days. The terms does state that if you cancel prior to the 3 28 day cycle then there will be a 25.00 fee.
Jeannette M.: We do have nutritionist here that will be able to help you with selecting a plot that will work for you.
Me: I already talked to one before I signed up.
Jeannette M.: As a courtesy all I will be able to do is waive the termination fee of 25.00 but the first charge of 15.96 will remain.
So I am stuck paying the $15.96. I was a member for like 30mins. My membership is still there for the month.
Is this a rip off?? My husband is going to be upset with me.
I’ve contemplated signing up for eDiets once or twice, but I clearly remember seeing the 12 week requirement for membership.
It’s not in bold print, but the information is there. Not reading things before you sign up can get you into distress.
They waived the early cancellation fee, which is excellent. It’s 15 dollars for the month, unfortunately you’ll have to fork it over. Let it be a lesson, take the time to read the details on what you’re signing up for. It can feel like a ripoff, but it’s not.
IC and IBS make things really hard when it comes to trying to conform to those diet websites. I have both myself, it’s the main reason I’ve never signed up. There are a lot of excellent diets out there designed to deal with IC, and by their very nature they can be fantastic for weightloss. You’ll have to work a bit harder to find something that will work with your requirements, and you may have to forgo many of the current ‘fad’ diets.

It may not be honest, but unfortunately many businesses are doing this. I hope your hubby isn’t upset, it is only $15. Use the membership for the month, you might as well get something out of it. Watch to see that you are not charged again, and keep notes of whom you spoke with, when and what was said. Hopefully you will only have the one charge and nothing more.References :
You always have to read the fine print on these things. If you wisely read the terms I’m sure this was listed in the terms. Its always your responsibility to know what your getting before you hit that "Accept" buttonReferences :
It’s not a ripoff because you consented to the terms of the contract. They even tried to be nice and waive the penalty clause, which they could have enforced.
I’m sorry not to have better news.References :
Unfortunately, it sounds to me like you may have failed to read the "fine print", so to speak. If I’m understanding your conversation with the rep correctly, she is really giving you a break by NOT charging you the $25 cancellation fee. At this point, I’d just chalk it up to "lesson learned", and go on.References :
Be glad you are only stuck with $15. When you signed up, I am sure there is a page that had the terms and conditions. You are supposed to read it (but no one does..I don’t) and I’m sure that’s where the payment plot is outlined. It sucks but you really did get off simple.
As for your husband…If he gets mad over $15 he needs to get a grip on the vital things in life. You don’t even have to tell him. Just say you did a trial membership for the amount.
~~I didn’t mean for this to come off as condemnatory it’s just that I have heard from people that have lost $100 on cancellation charges.References :
