What is the most effective way (supplements, anything) to lose weight?

I gained a lot of weight in a short amount of time due to antidepressants. Now I have gotten very serious with diet and exercise, watching everything I eat and going to the gym for yoga, weight training, and cardio almost every day. But I’m still gaining. What else can I do???

There is no effective supplement, pill or potion.
It is a matter of burning more calories than you are taking in.

Crank diets are useless and all the pills tell you to change diet and lifestyle – you do the work, they pocket your money.
Work on re educating your palate, then any weight you lose will stay off.
About 3,500 calories adds up to about 1 pound. This applies whether they are food calories coming in, or calories (burned by exercise) going out.
If you eat 3,500 calories more than your body needs, you will put on about 1 pound. If you use up 3,500 calories more than you eat, you will lose about 1 pound in weight.

If you suddenly upped your physical activity, your gain may very well be from building muscle.
Per unit , muscle tissue weighs more than fat tissue, and the body is generally quicker at building muscle than it is at consuming excess fat.

Part of having good fat consumption metabolism is having good muscle development, so your fat loss won’t really shift in to high gear until you have good muscle tone.
(And by the way, this does NOT mean a woman has to have large, masculine looking muscles.
Think of Michelle Obama’s upper arms/shoulders; or, just about any professional female ballroom dancer.)

How you paid attention to how your clothes are fitting since starting your exercise regime?
That is, are they getting tighter, or looser?

A weight scale cannot distinguish if body weight is coming from additional fat, muscle, or water retention.
Thus, despite whatever a scale may show, if your old clothes are feeling looser, you are likely on right track (assuming you are not drastically reducing calorie intake, more or less starving yourself).

A better indicator than a scale is to track body measurements, such as waist, hips, and thighs.
(but here again, because muscle tissue can grow faster than fat is lost, you may initially see increases).

Continue your exercise routine, continue a good diet (avoid/reduce refined sugars, refined carbohydrates, fat. And drink plenty of water — it aids metabolism).

If you are exercising near daily, you should see positive results by three weeks.
If not, find a professional to consult (either nutritionist or physical trainer).

    Hi there,

I think you might be getting a little mixed up with what you want exactly. You say that you want to lose "weight" but that means you might want to get rid of some muscle too. You then say that you’d like to "shape" (I’d call it tone) your body a little which implies you want to build some muscle. I’m not trying to pick at your question – I just want to clarify the point for you.

To answer it in the best way, I am going to look at it as if you want to get rid of fat AND build muscle at the same time. If you’re looking to "trim" and "tone" your body, and espectially because you suggest you are not that overweight, I would suggest you start performing more intensive aerobic exercises such as jogging. I wouldn’t think you need to change the whole way you eat or go on a diet because if you’re wanting to build muscles – it’s better to do it all with exercise.

Exercises like jogging won’t exactly "build" your muscles on your stomach but they will help reduce the extra fat around there. Depending on how fit you are, you should go on daily or bi-daily jogs of around a mile. To build muscles, you should concentrate on anaerobic exercises such as sit-ups to help build muscles.

These muscle-building exercises will give your muscles the toning and training they need to grow and become more prominent. To start to see a real difference with sit-ups, you should be looking to do no more than 100 every day (more than that will often hurt your muscles).

If you stick to doing those two forms of exercise – jogging and sit-ups, you should see real improvements in a week or two. Remember, you should do them as often as you can (I.E every single day).

Weight loss is a tricky topic. Lots of people are unhappy with their present weight, but most aren’t sure how to change it – and many would be better off staying where they are. You may want to look like the models or actors in magazines and on TV, but those goals might not be healthy or realistic for you. Besides, no magical diet or pill will make you look like someone else.

So what should you do about weight control?

Hope this can help u. :)
