Has anyone lost weight pretty quickly and if so how?

Some of my work collegues are over weight and want/need to lose weight, they more or less try everything there is but just doesnt seem to work. Has anyone ever lose weight in a space of a week and how did they do it. Other then then diet pills or other weight losing medications.

Thank you.

The surest way not to lose weight is to focus on the bathroom scale. I lost 50 pounds and kept it off by moderate exercise and a shift to a pure vegan diet as described by Dr. Dean Ornish in the Spectrum. If you want to lose a lot of weight follow the more extreme version of his diet. It has a lot of vegetables and legumes and whole grains so you feel full and satisfied.

Be cautious about following a pure vegetarian diet however. If you are on a statin drug to lower cholesterol, you may end up with too little cholesterol in your blood and this could affect your brain chemistry. Be aware that you must eat enough B12, D3, and Omega-3. Dr. Barnard recommends supplements for these. You should get some sun on your skin so that is can produce vitamin D on its own. If you are on chemo, beef helps moderate the effect of citotoxins. By all means don’t eat too much beef, pork, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy, or other animal sources of food. These are steeped in cholesterol. They also contribute to heart disease, cancers, osteoporosis, diabetes, and other health issues. You should eat lots of leafy green vegetables for calcium and other nutrients.

A good resource is Dr. Neal Barnard’s book "Fighting the Food Seduction." It show how you can break an addiction to sugars, fats, and salts. Yes, these are clear addictive substances for humans. You should also read about the dangers of aspartame, MSG, and other food additives. Scientists feed MSG to rats in order to fatten them up for studies.

Someone told me she lost 10 lbs in a week by not eating any carbs. I don’t know if she kept it off after that week but that’s what she said.

But really if they want to lose weight they have to learn patience. I get highly annoyed by people who try to lose weight for like a week and then give up because the didn’t get their new sexy body overnight. That’s why people fall prey to these "master cleanse" schemes, or do crash dieting, or juice fasting, or whatever. Proper weight loss happens over several weeks to months.

But the correct answer is eat 400 calories less than your BMR, and make sure it all comes from lean protein sources, vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Also tell those lazy bums to do some cardio exercise.
