Will gaining weight during the cross country season make my times slower?

I need to gain weight, but right now I am in cross country and running on varsity. If I tried to gain weight now, would I become slower?
Are talking about gaining 20 lbs by the end of the season? If not, try to gain the weight but considering all the running you must be doing…
Good luck with your running!
yes unless you work harder

It depends on the type of weight you are trying to gain. How much weight do you need to gain and why?
If you are anorexic, then your body does not have or cannot store adequate amounts of glycogen to maintain a healthy workout regimen (XC practices easily go around 10 miles). Eventually your body will start to consume muscle tissue. This is counter productive, self-destructive and biologically downright dangerous when you consider a good bit of the muscle tissue that is burned comes from YOUR HEART.
Eat properly and well with lots of lean protein. Being light helps in running, but if you are too light, you will never achieve your potential. Better yet, eat tons of veggies and fruit and your digestive tract will clean itself out. You’ll lose 3-5 lbs of "waste weight" and you can replace it with lean MUSCLE weight.
Oh, the "twiggy" look is out. The "Desire Ficker" look is in.
